Sports is one of the few things that can still bring a nation together. Because of its live nature it is also the saviour of television. The most watched programs are always sports programs. So when sports content is changing, this affects TV right away. In the Netherlands the Ministry of Media wants to cut back on sports broadcasting on public television. How bad is this? Do sports events and leagues still need TV like they used to? Our co-founder Gijsbregt Brouwer was in an interview on national radio. The interview is in Dutch (sorry for that), but below some quotes in English.
"Television is changing, and the Internet has a much more important role in the consumption of sports now. Both in the Netherlands and abroad most sports are watched via many different devices, like an iPhone or a tablet."
"Smaller sports should be focussing on online and building communities there."
"Athletes are key to sports share their adventures via social media and on their own platforms."
